School cancellations due to weather lead to a lack of practice time before the Show-Me NASP tournament in Columbia, MO this past weekend. The “rust” wasn’t evident as many archers shot personal bests. Macks Creek was represented by 11 student athletes who got up early in order to be on the shooting line at 9am. The Show-Me games consist of a line-up of 140 archers every hour from 8am-2pm. This was our archers’ biggest event to date.
Upon arrival at large tournaments, the
athletes are assigned a target number and are able to set up their equipment. Promptly
at the assigned hour, the archers take their spot and start shooting. The first end is a practice end at 10
meters, followed by three scoring ends. Lastly, the athletes move back to 15 meters and repeat the process.
The final score is the combination of the archer’s points total from 10 & 15 meters.
In the end our team of Pirates performed
well. Of the 11 athletes participating,
7 shot a personal best! Aiden Kelsay, an 8th grader, qualified for the state
shoot with a 272 (out of a possible 300). Way to go Aiden!
