The Lady Pirates softball team was finally able to play their first spring softball game against Marion C. Early of Morrisville. They were able to play at Ballparks National on a humid and warm day but with high wind gusts that played a crucial role on any pop-up to the infielders and outfielders of both teams.
Callie Leach started in the circle for tonight's contest. After the first pitch Coach Hedrick of Macks Creek had to pull Savannah Leach from her left field position due to injury. The Lady Pirates would finish the contest with 8 players.
After the top half of the first, Marion C. Early put up 12 runs to jump up to a big lead. The Ladies Pirates plated 4 batters in which Syrena Rector received a single and was the only batter to reach base in the first inning.
After the top of the second, Marion C. Early put up 7 more runs to add to their lead. Syrena Rector went into relief of Callie Leach in the circle to try and stop the bleeding. The Lady Pirates only plated 3 batters in the bottom of the second.
After the third, Marion C. Early plated 7 batters and only scored 4 more runs before Syrena retired the side with 2 strikeouts and a ground ball to Lahnae Lewis for the 4-3 out to Ciera Compton. At the bottom of the first, the Lady Pirates plated 3, in which as Savannah Leach was supposed to bat she was considered an out due to the first inning pulling due to injury. The final out of the inning was a deep fly ball hit by Ciera Compton to right field which was caught to close the game with 3 innings of play as the Lady Pirates fell to the Lady Panthers.
Coach Hedrick said, "I was proud of the way the girls played and their intensity throughout the game even though it was short. We haven't really been on the field besides our 1 day a week practice at Ballparks National due to the weather. Mother Nature just hasn't been our friend this spring. I'm excited to see what the girls look like for our next contest."
