The Macks Creek Pirates and Lady Pirates competed at the Blair Oaks Invitational on a chilly and windy Friday for their first meet of the season. The Pirates had a good night with several athletes competing in their first high school meets of their career and several more competing in events for the first time. The evening was capped off by the performances of senior Morgan Mitchell placing 7th in the Discus, Senior Molly Phillips placing 1st in the 3200 meter run and 4th in both the 1600 meter run and 800 meter run, Sophomore Caleb Phillips placing 3rd in the 3200 meter run and 4th in the 1600 meter, and the 4x800 meter relay composed of Caleb Phillips, Jose Cortez, Vaughn Vasquez, and Kyler Gabriel placing 7th. Great start to the season, Pirates! The Pirates and Lady Pirates are in action again Tuesday in Waynesville.
