March 19, 2021--The Macks Creek Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) spent last week raising awareness for infant and maternal health, raising funds for March of Dimes, and celebrating FBLA at Macks Creek School.
March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health and is dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. FBLA has been involved with March of Dimes for more than thirty years and continues to be the largest youth fundraiser for the March of Dimes. In total, Macks Creek FBLA members raised $919 to support this great organization.
Throughout the week, the chapter hosted $1 hat days, sold cookies, and ran a raffle for students to “Pie a Teacher.” The second graders raised the most money in the Elementary, so the winning ticket was drawn from their bucket. Sophie Vasquez literally threw her pie in Mrs. Green’s face. For the high school, it was obvious who the students’ choice was. As all of the students chanted “Mis-ter O,” Colton Eidson’s name was drawn to pie Mr. Overton in the face before Mr. O. “realized” the drawing was rigged. He got his revenge and pied FBLA member, Dakota Willis. The real winning ticket was drawn and India Willis got to pie Mr. Allen in the face. This was not the end of the messy celebration, though.
Mr. Trusty had agreed to let FBLA officers Syrena Rector and Ashley Klinksick make a sundae on his head if FBLA met their fundraising goal of $500. Elementary Principal, Dr. Jori Phillips, enjoyed placing the cherries on top before she was covered in silly string from FBLA officers Cameron Kates and Lowell Charlton, as well as the top fundraiser in the 2nd grade, Sophie Vasquez.
Overall students had a great time raising money for March of Dimes and contributing to the improvement of the health of babies and mothers in our community!
