Officer James Marlin of the Missouri State Highway Patrol taught students in Health Class this week. Officer Marlin is passionate about water safety and spent the entire week teaching our 9th grade students. Topics included, the proper way to operate a boat, safety concerns specific to the unique waterways of Missouri as well of the legal requirements for boating. Some interesting facts he mentioned about the Lake of the Ozarks were: Many people end up taking their red and green bow light covers off to replace bulbs, only to put them back on the opposite way, making night time operation extremely dangerous! He also mentioned many boaters don’t check to see if their night time operating lights are functioning before leaving the dock. As a result, there is a crash almost every night during the summer on the Lake of the Ozarks simply because other boaters cannot see them. Thank you 9th grade health students for your attention during this course and thank you to the Highway Patrol and Officer Marlin for providing this life saving information for our students! Please stay safe on the water Pirates! #MCPirates
